Sustainability resources

The videos for World Viewing were drawn from the following sites:

MITWorld
MIT World is a valuable resource for learning about the thought processes of engineers, scientists, policymakers, and business leaders. MIT World was one of the first organizations to offer video lectures online. Their catalogue includes hundreds of talks, with new content added weekly.

TEDTalks
TED stands for technology, entertainment, and design. TED is an annual conference that attracts imaginative and innovative thinkers. Speakers at TED are given twenty minutes to present their ideas. The format of the talks is designed to captivate and educate the audience. Since 2006 TED has provided talks from previous conferences for free on their site. Attending TED in person normally costs $6000.

Earth Institute at Columbia
The Earth Institute is a world leader for studying global challenges and pursuing solutions to real world problems. As an interdisciplinary group they study sustainable development from all angles. Their work to date will soon be published in a book.
The Earth Institute hosts several video collections:

Big Picture TV
Big Picture TV produces original interviews with popular figures in environmental and social sustainability. The opinions of the interviewees are well represented, but the clips are too short to provide adequate context for their arguments. The content should be scrutinized more carefully than the lecture format favoured by World Viewing.

dropping knowledge
dropping knowledge is an interactive web magazine for current issues related to sustainability. The site blends together video interviews, commentary, and general discussion. Open and free content and are major components of their mission to encourage social change.

Bursting at the Seams – Reith Lectures 2007
The 2007 Reith Lectures were given by one of the world's foremost economists, Professor Jeffrey Sachs. The series focuses on global development, and is featured in Joining the sustainability conversation.

The Long Now Foundation
Seminars About Long Term Thinking
The Long Now Foundation has the lofty goal of becoming a long term cultural institution. Their guidelines include serving the long view and fostering responsibility, goals that are directly in line with sustainability. The Long Now’s seminar site offers audio archives of lectures from a host of highly regarded modern thinkers.

E&E TV
Environment & Energy TV is an outlet for issues of interest to lawmakers in Washington DC. The E&E site hosts interviews with the consultants (and lobbyists) who shape US policy on energy, environment and climate.
